Question Is it safe for women to use men's rogaine?

My doctor told me to skip using the women's version of rogaine and just use the men's one. Is this safe? If it is, why label one as men and one as women?

Yes, for most women, the 5 percent; formula is quite safe, and I often recommend it to my female patients. With the very large women’s practice that I have, I find that most women do better with the 5%, and they especially like the Rogaine foam, as it doesn’t leave a residue. The main side effect can be facial hair growth, which can be irreversible without electrolysis or laser, so it is important to monitor for this. The reason the 5% is labeled as for men is that no (very expensive) clinical testing has been undertaken on the 5%, or that no improvement over the 2% formula has been proven in women.
